Huawei, Datatek, Alcatel and Netas had entered the tender for 600,000 ADSL ports that was organized by Turkish Telecom on 18th of October. The lowest bid in the tender was given by the Chinese company Huawei.
The lowest bid in the tender, which was held in October of the year 2003, was $23 million submitted by Huawei. Alcatel’s bid was $27 million.
However, it is reported that Alcatel had passed the test process and won the tender with $22 million. It is also reported that Huawei had not entered the test process and that the company had offered the tests to take place on the systems that are in China.
Alcatel recently had announced that it had reached a record breaking 50 million ADSL lines world wide.
ISP’s Are Also Going To Sell ADSL
Turkish Telecom will consider the demands and will enable internet service providers to sell ADSL lines. It is reported that talks with the ISPs are going on and the progress for supplying the high demands are about to finish. It is also said that a majority of the ISPs have demanded above 100,000 ports.
But, according to an information that was reported today, on the subject of “bitstream”, it is pointed out that Turkish Telecom had ordered measure decision. We are going to give the details of this report tomorrow.
Cost per Port Is Decreasing
Turkish Telecom’s 60,000 ports ADSL tender cost $8 million in June 2003 and $133 cost was calculated per port. Later at the 200,000 ports ADSL tender which was completed in December 2003 the cost per port was $110, and at the 600,000 ports ADSL tender which was completed in recent days, the cost per port was realized as $36,6.
The decrease in the costs are due to the decrease in the costs at the international markets and due to the increased number of ports.
