Today’s introduction of a new CWDM fibre solution follows the successful launch of the company’s CopperTen(tm) structured cabling system 12 months ago, the first to include 10 Gigabit/s capability over Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP). Since that time, ADC KRONE has successfully sold the CopperTen system throughout the world including the USA, UK and South Africa to a wide range of organisations including banks, financial institutions, universities, law firms, engineering consultancies, aerospace companies and one of the world’s leading animation studios.
“Even though 10 Gigabit/s OM3 fibre is relatively new, network managers have all got user connections rolling out at Gigabit – because that’s what many PC manufacturers are now fitting as standard” said Axel Kahsnitz, regional director for ADC KRONE in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Our CopperTen(tm) 10 Gigabit/s copper solution is already being installed not just by international banks who traditionally have data-intensive applications but by everyday organisations such as hospitality and entertainment facilities and solicitors.”
ADC KRONE anticipates that backbone traffic is likely to increase far beyond 10 Gigabit/s within the lifetime of current new installations and the additional cost of high bandwidth fibre could save significant cost and disruption for later upgrades.
The new ADC KRONE CWDM ready fibre is what is technically known as G652D low water peak singlemode fibre. One of the key benefits of the new fibre is that the active hardware only needs everyday 10Gigabit NICs today, but the fibre is ready for when CWDM NICs are needed to meet the network traffic capacity requirements of tomorrow.
“CWDM NICs are available for the enterprise space now,” said Mr. Kahsnitz. “Most of the active manufacturers already produce them on their access network equipment and are in the process of transferring them onto their enterprise gear.”
