Virgin Mobile, the UK’s largest mobile virtual network operator, is using
MindManager’s intuitive visual interface to structure its business and technical information in a simple graphical format. This makes its information quick to analyse and understand and easy to communicate. MindManager also provides a toolset for Virgin Mobile to plan and prioritise both individual and team workloads.
MindManager provides an intuitive visual interface that rapidly captures, organises, and shares information. This helps Virgin Mobile’s teams to understand the implications of different courses of action and the context for decisions. Virgin Mobile’s personnel are easily able to clarify their thought processes, analyse the significant factors and scenarios, to present the various options and to communicate the implications to the
business. This makes the decision-making process easier, clearer and more
effective.

MindManager is being used in a number of Virgin Mobile’s business teams including its business process improvements team, and its architecture and design team.
Business process improvement
One of MindManager’s uses is in the team responsible for business
improvements. By mapping out information in MindManager, individuals gain a
high level view which can help them identify where business process
improvements can be made and then clarify the thought processes behind
their implementation.
MindManager structures the information so that both the overall structure
of a business process and its key elements and activities are mapped out.
This enables a process to be broken down into atomic components and the
workflow examined to expose any inefficiencies. In this way it is easier to
see where improvements to a process can be made.
Business and Technical analysis
The Architecture and Design team use MindManager to assist the alignment of
IT systems with business processes. Mapping out information in MindManager
helps Business Analysts examine the logic behind business processes and
helps Technical Analysts understand the technical process required to
implement them. In addition, MindManager’s work prioritisation and planning
tools help identify and plan the tasks needed to produce the required
deliverables.
Strategic view
An ongoing challenge for Virgin Mobile was simplifying, presenting and
contextualising information, particularly for team decision-making at panel
discussions and meetings. Virgin Mobile uses MindManager on both an
individual and team basis, as it believes the graphical mapping format is
helpful for showing both context and a strategic view.
MindManager is used as an additional tool to Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and
others to present the analysis to an audience such as a team of colleagues
or the management board. It is particularly useful when the audience does
not know the relevant context, for example, a non-technical audience trying
to understand a technical issue.
