Forget e-commerce and m-commerce – the next Big Thing is “t-commerce”. And it’s the future of home shopping in South Korea, according to a Korean think tank.
The “t” stands for television – as in digital television. T-commerce services enable shopping network TV viewers to shop via their remote controls rather than phoning in or going online. The state-run Korea Broadcasting Commission has licensed five shopping channels and five t-commerce service providers, one of which – CS Homeshopping – is already in operation. The rest will launch later this year, and will sign on around 910,000 customers by the end of 2006, the Samsung Economic Research Institute said in a report.
“T-commerce can help home shopping channels overcome obstacles such as a limited number of items and broadcasting time, providing growth momentum to the industry,” the report said, according to Asia Pulse.
