Nokia Siemens Networks has announced plans to set up a Global Network Operations Center (GNOC) in Central Region of Russian Federation. Outsourcing network management is gaining momentum in Russia and the CIS. The new GNOC will help telecoms operators across the region to improve the speed, quality and efficiency of their services. Nokia Siemens Networks plans to make a significant investment over a period of five years to develop the center.
Work on the GNOC is expected to begin in the fourth quarter 2010 and the center is expected to begin network management operations during the second quarter of 2011. The GNOC in Russia will be the company’s fourth, company complementing its two existing centers in India and one in Portugal. The company’s managed services business currently supports more than 380 million subscribers around the world.
Speaking at a press conference in Moscow to announce the investment, Rajeev Suri, chief executive officer of Nokia Siemens Networks said, “We are committed to being a local player in Russia and this is a strong step in that direction,” said Rajeev Suri. “These network operation centers are what we call ‘process factories,’ where Russian employees can develop deep competencies in network management and operations.”
Having recently signed the Russia’s first major network operations outsourcing deal with Mobile TeleSystems, Nokia Siemens Networks is pioneering managed services in the region.
Also speaking at the press conference, Ashish Chowdhary, the company’s head of global services, said, “The huge growth in mobile broadband in Russia will pose considerable challenges to operators’ capital and operational costs. In addition, increased network complexity and rapid technology evolution will drive the need for simplified and standardized network management. Our GNOC will offer improved operational efficiency through automation of processes and bring economies of scale by centralizing service delivery. We will bring best practices in network operations to our GNOC in Russia from our experience in managing networks that currently support more than 380 million subscribers globally.”
The GNOC will be designed to operate multi-vendor networks. Operators will benefit from closer operational control, increased efficiency, improved service delivery, and high level of reliability, uptime and data security.
With three existing centers – two in India and one in Portugal – GNOCs are the cornerstone of Nokia Siemens Networks’ global service delivery model. The new Russia GNOC is a testimony to the evolution and adoption of this unique and innovative delivery model. The network of GNOCs is designed to help operators go to market faster through round-the-clock project management, ensure high network and service performance through transparent Service Level Agreements, and improve service delivery efficiency while reducing risk. Today, Nokia Siemens Networks has more than 2000 experts across its GNOCs that manage more than 280,000 network elements, handle close to 30 million alarms, resolve 80,000 trouble tickets and generate 45,000 performance reports per month.
