On 4 and 5 June, UK Trade & Investment, in cooperation with Invest Northern Ireland will welcome 12 journalists from across Europe and beyond for a two-day tour of Northern Ireland’s ICT sector. Fusun Sarp Nebil from turk-internet.com of Turkey, would be join the tour.
Both in Belfast and Londonderry, companies will use this opportunity to explain what’s going on in their market and showcase some cutting-edge technology.
Overall, the aim of the trip is to illustrate the strengths of the UK as a whole in the ICT industry, and Northern Ireland in particular.
The British ICT sector is booming, fuelled by the country’s outstanding R&D expertise, light-touch regulation culture and a considerable market segment of early adopters of new technologies. In 2006, the UK’s ICT sector achieved growth of 6.1%. Almost every multinational ICT player has a base in the UK.
Northern Ireland has an enriched political stability; it also is exemplary in the way in which its industry is moving. It is evolving from uniquely creating jobs in e.g. call centres, to research jobs in the different centres of excellence and dynamic clusters that are arising.
Visits during the tour include companies like Polaris, Intelliden, Mobile Cohesion, Asidua, Singularity, Wombat, Liberty IT as well as Queen’s University from Belfast and the University of Ulster Magee. Furthermore, a visit to Stormont, Northern Ireland’s Assembly, is scheduled.
