The Informatics Association of Turkey’s (TBD) Board of the 26th Period held its first meeting on March 30th. After the meeting the board members are announced as follows:

- Önder ÖZDEMİR (Vice Chairman),
- Murat AŞKAR (Accountant),
- Serdar BİLECEN (Treasurer),
- Uğur AKKUŞ (Secretary General),
- Nihat YURT (Member),
- Faruk ÖZER (Member),
- Atilla YARDIMCI (Member),
- Uğur YÜKSEL (Member),
- Deniz ŞAHİN (Member),
- Lütfi VAROĞLU (Member).
TBD’s Vice Chairman Önder Özdemir made an announcement on behalf of the association and stated that main focus shall be improving the relations with members. Mr. Özdemir also said another target is to create nationwide added value with the power gained through active participation of members and added:
“The Informatics Association of Turkey shall establish and improve right and principle-based relations with all parties believing in developing Turkey through informatics. As the new board of TBD, we believe that the way to create a competitive informatics industry is to produce nationwide added value. It is important that information technologies are expanded in a way that is in line with equity in services offered to citizens.
We think the industry’s development is dependent upon creating solutions together with vertical industries in order to achieve productivity. We shall work with a sincere feeling of responsibility and service to develop and implement right informatics policies and to help people benefit from information technologies as much as possible, especially through social projects.”
The government shall be actively monitored
The Informatics Association of Turkey aims to closely monitor the government’s informatics policies and provide active contribution to such efforts. Vice Chairman Önder Özdemir stated that the association shall establish a strategy group and create coherence in policies. “We shall make suggestions to government policies for supporting informatics. We will also monitor inappropriate operations and, as a non-governmental organization, we will use our initiative power in the form of criticism and public pressure.” Mr. Özdemir also said TBD plans to build extensive cooperation with other NGOs, especially those operating in informatics industry. The new decisions and priorities of the association are expected to create a strong dynamism and differentiation.
