Network specialist Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris:ALU)(NYSE:ALU) today announced the completion of a project for Turkish telecoms company Turk Telecom to upgrade its network and introduce new capabilities and services.
The Turk Telekom Rural Transformation Project was initiated in March 2007 and required the replacement of 2.9 million lines and 9,750 nodes with next-generation network (NGN) based multiservice access nodes (MSANs). The project has been successfully implemented within a 21 month timeframe and generated a total revenue of EUR62.3m for Alcatel-Lucent.
The project has allowed Turk Telekom to bridge the digital divide within the country, and has helped the Turkish incumbent to introduce a wide range of new services such as N7 signalling, CLIP/CLIR, detailed billing, SMS on PSTN, ISDN BRA/PRA, prepaid call, Centrex, IN services and BB services.
On top of its proven 1540 Litespan MSAN product, Alcatel-Lucent provided Turk Telekom with project management services as well as site survey, integration and testing, installation and commissioning, remote and on-site technical support, software upgrades, training, and also repair and replacement. About 1,400 Turk Telekom and Alcatel-Lucent employees have been involved in the project, and more than 750 people have been trained to install, maintain and upgrade the new infrastructure.
