Phonsai is the product of a two-year R&D project carried out by Bircom, who steered the sector with 38 years of experience. It is the up and coming website for corporations who want to access millions of people’s cell phones by having mobile applications. Phonsai, which offers an opportunity to develop mobile applications conveniently through its compatibility with the 90% of the existent cell phones, was built by a team of 6 members and is the outcome of a $450,000 worth investment. Thanks to Phonsai, any corporation is able to move their business to the mobile world and access the cell phones of their target group with a reasonable cost.
Burcin Bircanoglu, the CEO of Bircom, says with Phonsai, they target operators, producers, value-added service providers, PR agencies, potential mobile application developers and the new generation users. Burcinoglu also says being compatible with all cell phones, the only limiting area in building mobile apps with Phonsai should be the least preferred phones.

Burcin Bircanoglu states that it is often a long and tricky process to develop a mobile application that has a compatibility with a wide range of cell phones and that a fairly simple application development would take 1.5 – 2 months. Bircanoglu emphasizes that all user tests were held on users who have relatively little knowledge about computers and adds: “User screens are quite comprehensible and you can do anything you like with only a few clicks. People who meet Phonsai have their mobile apps developed within a few minutes.”
It is as easy as blogging
Bircanoglu, highlights the fact that 15 years ago it would be fundamental to take quite a lot of steps and work with a professional or an amateur software expert to build either an individual or a corporate website and says: “Today you have an access to a number of opportunities except for professional assistance to build a website if you have the contents. As we were designing Phonsai, our goal was to provide users at any level with this opportunity for all mobile platforms. By Phonsai, a basic computer user can develop mobile applications only by copying the contents they have. They can create mobile catalogs, brochures, company descriptions, operating manuals and photo albums and even mobile city guides if they like.”
The cost of entering the mobile world
Bircanoglu stated that even though the costs of applications developed by using Phonsai may differ, they are still way more reasonable when compared to their rivals, saying “To order even the least complicated software for a smart-mobile platform would cost $5,000 – $8,000 in Turkey and $8,000 – $12,000 abroad. Therefore the phone models you target do not exceed 3 – 10. Whereas, with Phonsai you can develop a mobile application which would be compatible with 2,000 different patterns and only pay for the SMS(Wappush) fees when you send your applications to mobile phones.”
Over 5,000,000 users are expected to profit from Phonsai
Bircanoğlu advised that the cost of using Phonsai would depend on the number of people the application is sent to and said: “We essentially started to work with target operators of Phonsai and added-value service associates. Recently, we have been evaluating the requests we receive from foreign countries. We anticipate, by the end of 2011 over 1,000 corporates will have developed applications via Phonsai and 5 million mobile phone users in Turkey only will have downloaded Phonsai applications for about 25,000,000 times.”
Stating that Phonsai was declared as the application development platform by Turkcell in the application engineering competition “Uygulamalar Yarisiyor” , Bircanoglu also mentioned that the individually build applications such as the music application developed for the band ‘Nefes’ , practical English, TOEFL exercise, 2010 Astrology, Swine Flue Guide are now displayed in Turkcell’s application gallery, ‘Turkcell Uygulama Dukkani’.
