Secret Millionaire David Jamilly is to represent the UK at the World Kindness Movement conference next week. The conference takes place on the 28th – 30th September 2010 in Sydney Australia and comprises of 22 member nations.
David Jamilly and Louise Burfitt-Dons are the co-founders of Kindness Day UK, which seeks to bring kindness to the forefront of everyone’s mind in the UK.
“Kindness has a far greater role to play in a world that is being torn apart by recession, consumerism and selfish behaviour.
Both David Cameron’s Big Society initiative and the Pope’s visit would seem to endorse the need for a new set of values” says David.
“Our intention is that the UK sets the standard for kindness around the world” says Louise.
The inaugural Kindness Day UK is on 13th November and set for every year after that. It has received immense interest and acknowledgement from all sectors.
Letters of support and quotations have been received from politicians, celebrities, charities and industry leaders alike including; The Rt HON Sir John Major KG CH, Charles Kennedy MP, The Rt HON David Blunkett MP, Arlene Phillips, Noel Edmonds, Sir Stuart Rose (M&S), Dame Barbara Stocking DBE (Oxfam GB) plus many more.
Leading academics at universities including Harvard, California, San Diego and Sussex Universities have recently carried out studies praising the health benefits of kindness. Professor Lord Richard Layard, Professor Emeritus at the London School of Economics and founder of the School of Economic Centre for Economic Performance, clearly defines the benefits through his studies in Happiness: Lessons from a New Science.
