Friday is the most popular day for playing games on Facebook according to Sony Ericsson, who developed Emusicon Pinball for fans on its global page.
With social gaming becoming more popular than ever, Sony Ericsson have observed a running trend that has indicated that its free online pinball game is played more on a Friday than any other day. With players anticipating a weekend of fun activities, internet pinball is proving to be a popular precursor to the weekend.
Social gaming has exploded in recent years, with Facebook announcing that over 200 million users are playing games on the site every month. This figure equates to an astonishing 40% of the Facebook userbase using the site for gaming. Social networking sites have been recognised as the next important gaming platform, and with an increasing number of users logging in on a daily basis this figure is only set to grow.
It is clear that social gaming is more popular on a Friday due to the fact that users enjoy playing a fun online game whilst getting ready for the weekend. Gaming is clearly seen as an enjoyable way to wind down from the working week. In years gone by, families would have gathered around the table on a Friday evening and at the weekend to enjoy a collective game, however as we move deeper into the digital culture, the family table has been replaced by a computer. So although the gaming platform has changed, the tradition of playing games when the working week has ended remains the same today.
Ben Padley, Head of Digital and CRM for Sony Ericsson, said: “With social networking sites now representing the core gaming platform it is refreshing to see that differing aspects of the gaming tradition have not changed along with the way in which games are played. Emusicon pinball is a great example of that fact that although the platform may have changed, with computer pinball proving to be more popular than ever, the key traditions of gaming on a Friday in preparation for the weekend remain the same.”
