Gift buying trends are changing. We are perhaps now seeing a big shift in gift buying habits towards more ethical and eco-friendly gifts, specifically for Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
Valentine’s Day has been knocked off the top gift-buying spot at Tree2MyDoor by Fathers Day orders according to the gift company’s founder and managing director, Gareth Mitchell.
“Orders for both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day have now overtaken sales for Valentine’s Day which used to be our busiest time of the year but the single most significant increase and the one that has surprised us the most is the rise in gift trees for Father’s Day,” he reports.
The rise, over the last two years, has been so spectacular – orders of tree gifts for Father’s Day have increased by 20% between June 2007 and 2008- that Tree2MyDoor is expecting the trend to continue next month when Father’s Day is celebrated on Sunday June 21st.
In keeping with this trend to send a sustainable and lasting gift in preference to flowers (which die) or chocolates (which expand the waistline) gift tree orders for Mother’s Day this year also reached record levels notching up a 27% annual increase since 2008.
The three most popular Native tree choices (in no particular order) are: Crab Apple, Wild Cherry and Rowan trees which, according to Gareth, will thrive in 90% of British gardens and bring the added bonus of attracting wildlife into the back yard.
Of the more exotic Tree2MyDoor tree offers. Bay Laurel trees, Lemon trees, Olive trees and Orange trees are popular although both Lemon and Orange will, of course, need to be housed in a warm Conservatory where, if cared for, they can fruit up to four times a year.
Brand new for 2009 and available now, in response to customer requests, in time for Father’s Day is the Fig tree; a deciduous, large-leafed tree which can be kept outside in sunny but sheltered from the wind spot which again, will fruit once a year, if taken care of properly.
