Amsterdam, Netherlands, 4th July 2014 – Last week the annual LTE World Summit, the world’s leading 4G event, took place at the Amsterdam Rai and served up everything LTE. 2900 attendees, of which 41% were from operators and 42% were director level or above, attended the event, with over 300 speakers and 150+ exhibitors delivering their latest solutions and experiences in LTE.
For the first time, this year’s event was co-located with the 5G World Summit. The summit was used as a platform to help leading operators and solution providers understand the forces driving 5G, what technologies are required for 5G and which services 5G will enable. Discussions began with a networking innovation panel titled, “Paving the way towards 5G: Maximising future technologies including NFV & Cloud”. The panel consisted of Erik Hoving, CTO, KPN Group; Haitham Abdulrazzak, CTO, Etisalat; Kerstin Günther, SVP, Technology Europe, Deutsche Telekom; Günther Ottendorfer, CTO, Telekom Austria Group and Yousef Abu-Mutaw, CTO, Zain Jordan. In addition to 5G, hot topics discussed were: VoLTE, LTE Roaming, Handling Mobile Data, Signaling, LTE Evolution and HetNets, to name only a few.
At the event, the LTE World Series was on-hand to interview many of the key speakers, such as Erik Hoving, CTO, KPN Group; Günther Ottendorfer, CTO, Telekom Austria Group; and Paul Ceely, Head of Network, EE.
The main conference boasted a host of top speakers from some of the industry’s best recognised brands including: Telekom Austria Group, Vodafone Netherlands, Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Zain Jordan, KPN Group, SK Telecom, Telkom Mobile, Bouygues Telecom and du. Also present were the leading solution providers including: Huawei, Oracle, Samsung, Alcatel Lucent, Mediatek, ZTE, F5, Juniper Networks, NEC and many more.
Günther Ottendorfer, CTO of the Telekom Austria Group, took part in a fireside chat with Ovum’s Chief Research Officer, Mark Newman, where he shared his views on the results from the recent frequency auction in Austria. He also discussed how these results will impact the future development of LTE in Austria as well as discussing Telekom Austria’s strategy for dealing with the huge data growth and peak demand via LTE.
The events free expo summits proved to be a major hit, with five tracks running throughout the event. They looked at the Future of LTE, LTE Public Safety, Network Optimisation, Maximising Spectrum and Accelerating Innovation. These sessions included speakers from Telenor, TCCA, Federal Police, BlackBerry, BT, Orange, Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS), Ofcom and FCC.
The event played host to the Telecoms.com Awards 2014. This year’s awards featured 16 categories which rewarded companies and organizations across the industry for innovation and excellence. The winners included, Alcatel Lucent, Amdocs, Huawei, LGU+, Samsung and ZTE to name a few.
In addition, to celebrate the events 10th anniversary, the organizers hosted a special drinks reception which enabled attendees to network with some of the industry’s elite.
