October 20, 2015, London, UK – The Broadband Forum today announced the hosting of many new technologies on its Interoperability Pavilion at the Broadband World Forum event. This includes the first demonstrations of G.fast which promises to open up new residential and business opportunities at millions of locations. This also marks the first tangible deliverable of the Forum’s newly announced Broadband 20/20 vision. The focus is on specific new broadband home and business opportunities that leverage SDN, NFV, IoT and ultra-fast technologies. Also on display in the pavilion are the BBF Certification and Plugfest programs that underpin key enabling technologies such as device management (TR-069) and ultra-fast access using G-PON, G.fast and VDSL2.
Teresa Mastrangelo, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading said: “Broadband 20/20 is an extremely timely initiative at a time when there are so many new technology approaches vying for attention of operators and there is a danger of the market becoming confused and fragmented. By focusing on the integrated use of these technologies, the Broadband Forum will help operators gain the much-needed confidence in the business potential of implementing SDN and NFV in the broadband network. The importance of the use cases the Broadband Forum has developed cannot be stressed enough.”
Tom Starr, Broadband Forum President and Lead Member of Technical Staff at AT&T, said: “The Broadband 20/20 vision recognizes that interoperability will be key to the new world of communications. It is a core part of the Forum’s work and strategy and so the Interoperability Pavilion is the perfect place to discuss and showcase both the vision and the emerging technologies such as G.fast.”
The Interoperability Pavilion, with its diverse mix of companies and technologies, gives the Broadband Forum its first opportunity to showcase and discuss the ideas encompassed in Broadband 20/20. It demonstrates tangibly the holistic approach that Broadband 20/20 will take, supporting the development of broadband in the future and helping to transform the way people communicate, purchase and consume all manner of informational and entertainment content.
“Our presence at Broadband World Forum will allow us to show more of how Broadband 20/20 will enable seamless migration to ultra-fast, agile connectivity, enabling new technologies and allowing them to deliver real value, with exciting new opportunities for service providers,” added Robin Mersh, Broadband Forum’s CEO.
