Polish Expats Association (PEA) launches ‘Behind the Curtain Festival’, a new, expanded and unique Central and Eastern European film and new media festival in partnership with major Art venues in Birmingham, including Mac, Centrala and Birmingham City Council.
Considering the advance development of technology and the increasing accessibility of filmmaking equipment available in todays market, everyone is trying to find innovate technologies to improve our experience in cinema, so our organization decided to take slightly different approach and focus more on the video art, and the excitement behind projection mapping, and interactive exhibitions. And bringing a combination of film, video art, audio/video installations, workshops, artists’ talks and music; as our aim is to enter the era of the new cinema, where the audience expects more than a flat projection, and at the same time introduce people into high quality Eastern European cinema and video artists.
Behind the Curtain aims to engage people with the wealth of cinematography from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as bringing the diverse multi-cultural communities across the city together. For those from Central and Eastern Europe, the festival hopes to create a platform to maintain and celebrate cultural identity, and feel part of Birmingham and the West Midlands’ cultural life.
Festival programme will also include ‘Film and Poetry’ sessions, where Young generation artists from Birmingham will perform their interpretation of fragments from Eastern European films in their poems.
Although at the same time as an art organization, we would like to create more opportunities for the young artists to share their skills, ideas, art and voice, by trying to get them involved in new and exciting projects. Also we are promoting European culture through Exhibiting internationally acclaimed as well as emerging contemporary artists, and bringing artists and musicians into our space, and involving our guests in free artists’ talks and workshops.
And everything will accomplished with a delightful night of Eastern European Horror Night with film discussions, visuals and music night.
