In August, Hamburg retired from Chicago-based multinational computer software company, SPSS Inc. He will continue to serve as a full-time executive committee member for SPSS through 2004.
Hamburg had served as the company’s executive vice president, chief financial officer and corporate secretary since 1992. He was the company’s head of business development from 1986 to 1992, after roles as a sales engineer and product manager.
“Ed brings with him a wealth of experience, ranging from mergers and acquisitions, to financial reporting, corporate governance, and other software operations,” said Interactive Intelligence president and chief executive officer, Dr. Donald E. Brown. “This, along with a track record that includes helping to grow SPSS from $38 million in revenue to a
publicly-traded $208 million company, makes him a major asset to our board.”

From 1982 to 1986, Hamburg was assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, while serving as an independent consultant to various commercial and nonprofit organizations. During this time he also held the position of research fellow at the National Opinion Research Center of the University of Chicago.
Hamburg received his doctorate degree from the department of political science at the University of Chicago in 1982.
