Yücel Bağrıaçık, President of Turk Telekom Informatics Networks Department, answered our questions concerning Internet Data Services. Stating that process of tender continues in the frame of the solution partnership with Internet Service Providers (ISP), Bağrıaçık said “ISPs are going to differentiate themselves, with the value-added services, offer to their customers” Bağrıaçık says that all kinds of efforts should be shown for expanding the sector.
After tender call published on Govermental Newspaper dated 9th March 2004, Turk Telekom was planning to render new internet services which would bring revenue to the information sector. Turk Telekom, by tender which is going to be put out on March 30, aims to obtain services such as web, e-mail, DNS, on-line game, e-commerce, messaging on internet, e-card, video streaming, video on demand, e-learning, e-services hosting (CM, ERP, MIS), Storage and Disaster Recovery from the companies that show activity in the market.
turk-internet.com : What are Internet Data Services? What do you aim to do with it?
Yücel Bağrıaçık : With IDC Center, the largest content and application center of Turkey is being planned. With this center, a step will have been taken for e-government structuring which has been talked over for years but not being able to take steps anyhow, and starts to function as a doorway to e-government. Significant savings are going to be acquired in IDC expense items and personnel employment of the public,accelerating e-transformation. IDC services operating more professionally will be served for the use of all public institutions.
turk-internet.com : Who prepared the infrastructure of this system?
Yücel Bağrıaçık : IBM company prepares the whole infrastructure which is going to start operating at the end of April.
turk-internet.com : Which subjects of collaboration in this system do you suggest for ISPs?
Yücel Bağrıaçık : In the frame of solution partnership, process of tender still continues at the point of collaborating with the companies that are expert at their subjects on software and application..
turk-internet.com : Is there any initiative of Turk Telekom regarding the content? What is its suggestion on this subject?
Yücel Bağrıaçık : We are planning to determine the solution partners which render service on this subject by a tender which is going to be put out on March 30, again as an extent of our IDC project.
Within this context, solution partnership of IDC services offer is going to be formed on 5 different packages with 5 different companies. These services include the packages of:
. Portal and E-Commerce applications,
. E-Learning Distance Education platform and applications,
. Storage and back-up storage and back-up services,
. Media and streaming applications VoD, video conference, film, music, radio, TV applications etc.
. Corporate package solutions ERP,CRM, Special applications.
turk-internet.com : You suggest ISPs to render services via ADSL in addition to the sale of ADSL port. What are these services?
Yücel Bağrıaçık : I think that ISPs should also aim the port sales. Because, all kinds of efforts should be shown in order to expand this sector. Here, ISPs would differentiate themselves by the value-added services they present before the customers.
turk-internet.com : How do you interprete the behavior of ISPs in the sector?
Yücel Bağrıaçık : Assuring the rate of internet usage goes up to its deserved place,ISPs and TTAŞ should be in complete collaboration. This collaboration is essential for both diffusing broad band services and also enlarging the sector. Furthermore, increasing the 4% computer and 7% internet usage rates will be realized due to this collaboration.

Yücel Bağrıaçık : It is being planned to realize the projects of WLAN, Metro Ethernet, Omurga, MPLS-VPN, diffusing Corporate and Individual Security and Access with its all kinds.
