Anna Bradley, 13 of Milton Keynes decided to launch the UK’s first ‘personal cause’ crowd funded web platform after her mother was unexpectedly made redundant. Anna looked around online to see if there was any way she could help her mum that didn’t involve a loan.
She found there was nothing available, so Anna raided her savings account and Goodwill Giving was born.
Personal cause crowd funding is new offering to the UK, but involves individuals utilising the upcoming web platform to set up personal fundraising campaigns.
The platform will integrate with Facebook and Twitter to allow sharing of campaign information and a ‘Fund-o-Meter’ will keep visitors and fundraisers up to date on the progress of the campaign. Updates, videos and images can be loaded and a campaign can be nominated by friends and family or by the individual facing the challenge.
Anna is hoping to attract pilot campaigns for the platform launch date of July, 31st 2015 and is asking for help to publicise her, truly unique, initiative.
The premise for a campaign is as broad as the challenges of daily life can bring but some examples would be:
- An elderly couple who need a heating system in their home before winter.
- A child in an inner city who hopes to buy text books or school uniform but can’t afford it.
- A disabled person whose house desperately needs ramps and support rails.
- A much beloved pet whose vets bills are beyond the reach of their owner.
Anna said: “Most people work very hard but when things go wrong, if they were able to tell their stories, people would want to help them. I want to offer a place to tell those stories”.
