Being engaged in audio, data and visual communication issues, Borusan Bilisim has obtained the distributorship in Turkey, for corporate audio and data products of Alcatel, the pioneer enterprise of telecommunication sector. Collaboration was introduced to the media and resellers by a meeting held in Mövenpick Hotel, Istanbul.
In his speech at the meeting, Burak Gökmen, General Manager for Borusan Teknology reminded that on the year 1997, it was adopted to add the ‘Technology’ to 3 outstanding activity fields of the group: Logistics, Distributorship and Steel, as a strategy.
He added that Borusan has great targets for the period after the liberalization of Borusan’s Technology Group, which is comprised of Bnet, Pargem and Borusan Bilisim, and they aim Bnet to become an alternative telecom operator to Turk Telekom, whereas it is planned to derive 10% of the group’s incomes – which means a 150-200 Million $ amount of total – from the field of Technology.
Speaking after Burak Gökmen, Lütfi Yenal, the Chairperson of Alcatel Teletas stated that they immigrated to distributorship system in order to offer Alcatel’s services more extensively. He also noted that Alcatel gets more stronger day by day with its 76.000 employees worldwide and its turnover of 16 Billion Euros in 130 countries and they are immigrating to solution partners model for the new products ranged by being developed or being purchased and Yenal added that market volume of the World’s telecom sector products is 1 Trillion $. He also said that 50% of Telecom sector’s clients are corporate bodies in the world, whereas this rate is a little higher in Turkey and therefore Alcatel chose Corporate Market as target.
Attending the meeting on behalf of Alcatel Business Systems, Pascal Dussiau, the Region Director of the company described Alcatel’s targets:
“4 years ago we changed model according to the needs of the corporate market and we immigrated to Business Partnership – Multi Channel Sales models by making an investment of 4 billion $. With this model, in US market for instance, we have taken a share of 20% within two years.
In our new strategy which we summarize it with the concept of ‘Unlimited Company’ our priorities are infrastructure integration in e-business and communication issues as well as convenience and efficiency for user.”
In IP telephone market Alcatel has owned 10% of the US market in the year 2002. Our target for the year 2006 is to reach 50%. In EMEAI market, which covers Europe-Middle East-Africa and India, IP telephone market is developing rapidly.
As the last speaker, Tayfun Türkalp, the General Manager of Borusan Bilisim reminded the figures of broadband market in OECD countries and said that the liberalization which is to coma by the beginning of 2004, will cause an improvement in quality and a decrease in prices, owing to alternative telecom operators. He pointed out how the liberalization brings quality noting that, for instance, 12 lines out of 100 breaks down every year in OECD countries, where this number is 17 in Greece – in where Telecom sector was liberated recently – and it is 56 in Turkey, according to TT’s figures.
