Although small businesses may believe that control and speed are important advantages in printing their own documents in-house, it could be that these beliefs are costing them dearly.
Today’s home / office printing machines appear to offer small businesses greater sophistication and more features and functions for less money. These machines have also found wider distribution – we can pick them up from the supermarket, but is this really a good sign?
Ultimately the person who finally receives any printed document will not care where and how it was produced unless aspects of the quality catch their attention and cause them to make a negative judgement about the printed item.
For many small businesses there is a belief that outsourcing printing is only the domain of larger businesses and is likely to be prohibitively expensive, possibly wasteful and may require waiting times that the business cannot spare.
There is also a belief in businesses where paper communications are printed in-house (which includes a very large amount of small businesses) that the recipient will focus only on the message.
The fact is however that it is the recipient who makes the ultimate decision on the success of any communication is free to make all manner of judgements about that communication and the sender based on the visual cues and the quality of the printing.
Digital Printing specialist Louise Hodge from Bedfordshire digital printers Fidelity comments:
“Yes it is true that you can buy some good and reasonably priced Deskjet, Laserjet and Multi-Function printers for the home or office. It’s not just a case of focusing on cost though or thinking that you just want an OK or acceptable result. The quality of your printed material is more important than you may think. It can affect perceptions of your business and it can make a difference to the actual effectiveness of the communication.
When you need to make the right impression, for example if it’s a new customer or if your communications are designed to attract new customers in my opinion it is worthwhile putting aside any assumptions about outsourcing printing and just make a quick call to a good digital printers . You’re likely to be surprised by just how much they can actually do for you, how fast they can get your work done and how reasonably priced it can be. After all, your printer is an experienced professional who can help you and your company to make the best possible impression. When you look at the potential lifetime value of a customer it’s worth getting your printed material just right.”
