The traditional view of Christmas is of happy families getting together for joyous celebration but the festive season is also the most precipitous time for married relationships. In the immediate aftermath of Christmas more married people are likely to be unfaithful or seek a divorce than at any other time of the year. It is also the time when a suspicious spouse has the best chance of spotting if their other half is playing away from the marital bed.
UndercoverLovers.com, a dating website for married people seeking extra-marital affairs, has reported a record post-Xmas surge in new memberships. Since Christmas Day 16,783 people in the UK have registered on the site. This is almost four times the site’s usual sign-up rate. Undercover Lovers has also published its Top 6 Telltale Signs of a Christmas Cheater compiled from the responses of 5,000 of its adulterous members.
UndercoverLovers.com spokesperson and Infidelity expert Emily Pope says: “We’re used to a big increase in people registering on the site after Christmas and this year we hired extra Admin staff in anticipation of the deluge. But even we’ve been surprised by the numbers joining Undercover Lovers over the last two days. 2012 has been a particularly tough year for families with squeezed incomes and job uncertainty placing great strains on marriages. For many spouses adultery represents a fantasy escape route from the stresses of domestic reality.”
However according to Undercover Lovers the Christmas period is also the best time of the year to catch out a two timing husband or wife.
Emily Pope observes: “Because married couples spend so much more time in close proximity over the festive season it is harder for adulterers to conceal their cheating ways and consequently easier for a cuckolded husband or wife to spot the clues.”
Undercover Lovers has published a Top 6 Telltale Signs of a Christmas Cheater compiled from the responses of 5,000 of its members who were asked if they had ever been caught cheating over the festive season and if so what gave the game away.

1. A hidden gift item intended for a lover, discovered before Christmas by the spouse, which they did not then get given on Christmas Day.
2. Christmas text messages or emails from a lover discovered by the husband/wife.
3. Spotted in a local restaurant by a close friend of their husband/wife having a Christmas meal with their lover.
4. Wearing a Christmas gift item of clothing or jewellery received from a lover and failing to explain it convincingly to their husband/wife.
5. A credit card statement arriving after Christmas showing charges for expensive gift items that the spouse did not receive.
